Shining a Spotlight on a Mini Master! Create Like The Master's

Hey there, art enthusiasts! Today, I'm thrilled to shine a spotlight on one of my remarkable young oil pastel artists!

Now, they might only be nine years old, but their artistic talent is anything but small. This young artist has been lighting up my "Create Like the Masters: Oil Pastel Adventures" class with their vibrant creations bursting with texture and personality.

Mastering Color & Texture

In the oil pastel class, we explore well known artists and their iconic paintings. Well, this shining star takes that concept and runs with it! We've been learning about famous artists like Van Gogh, Monet, and Margarete Keane, and they have been channeling the master's styles in their own unique way. Each stroke of oil pastel, brings to life a symphony of colors and textures that captivate the eye and stir my soul.

Orange and yellow goldfish swim in a glass vase on a pink oval table surrounded by a variety of green leafy plants.
Inspired by Henri Matisse's "Goldfish"

Here's a prime example: take a peek at this dazzling piece inspired by Henri Matisse's "Goldfish." Bold outlines and contrasting hues bring a playful energy to the piece, with the goldfish taking center stage. Their warmth and scale draw the viewer in, while the textured background adds a layer of delightful complexity.

Beyond the Brushstrokes

But this star artist isn't afraid to experiment beyond just mimicking techniques. They're a master at taking inspiration and making it their own.

A blue vase with a pink polka dot base holds a bouquet of vibrant yellow sunflowers with a orange and black. monarch butterfly hovering above. The background is a blend of pink and green and the table is yellow.
Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's "Sunflowers"

Just look at this sunflower masterpiece inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's "Sunflowers". See how they chosen introduced cool colors and a butterfly to this traditionally monochromatic art. Did you see that not only did they use oil pastels, they added acrylic POSCA paint pen to complete patterns and details on the butterfly?

Benefits of Blossoming as an Artist

Here's the thing, creating art with your kids isn't just about pretty pictures (although those are fun too!). Art helps young minds develop in incredible ways.

Boosts Confidence: As kids see their creative skills grow, their confidence flourishes! They learn to express themselves freely and experiment without fear.

Sharpens Problem-Solving Skills: Believe it or not, art projects encourage critical thinking. Whether it's figuring out how to blend colors or create a unique composition, young artists are constantly problem-solving.

Connects Them to History: By studying famous artists, kids get a glimpse into different cultures and historical periods. It's a fun way to learn about the world around them!
